SUMMARY:ASSISTING INDIVIDUALS in CRISIS / Peer Support (Oklahoma City)
DESCRIPTION:ASSISTING INDIVIDUALS in CRISIS is PHASE 1 of the process to become a trained “Peer Support Responder”. This course is the foundation which prepares the student to provide Peer Support and CISM interventions (if needed) during Individual or “1 on 1” interactions with other First Responders. The need for appropriate follow-up services and referrals post-incident\, when necessary\, will also be discussed during this training. \nThis course is designed for First Responders and Mental Health Professionals who assist other First Responders and their families in dealing with job-related Stress and Trauma. \nCLEET CE 16 hr and 8 hr MH \nATTENTION: Due to the frequent requests for this training\, PLEASE notify us if you register for this class but your schedules change\, and you are Not able to attend. DESCRIPTION:This 3-day course combines ALL the content of ICISF’s Assisting Individuals in Crisis & Group Crisis Intervention courses. \nCrisis Intervention is NOT psychotherapy; it is a specialized acute emergency mental health intervention requiring specialized training. As physical first aid is to surgery\, crisis intervention is to psychotherapy. Thus\, crisis intervention is sometimes called “emotional first aid.” Designed to present the core elements of a comprehensive\, systematic\, and multi-component crisis intervention curriculum\, this course will prepare participants to understand various crisis intervention services for individuals and groups. Fundamentals of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) will be outlined\, and participants will leave with the knowledge and tools to provide several group crisis interventions\, specifically demobilizations\, defusing\, and Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD).
