The goal of this training is to assist First Responder Peer Teams in building sustainable peer teams while maintaining the health of the team and increasing the overall health of their organization.
Course Summary:
Peer Support: Team Building and Beyond is a 16-hour advanced training designed to strengthen the foundation, structure, and sustainability of peer support programs. Participants will gain knowledge from experienced Peer Instructors and Mental Health Professionals in building new peer teams or enhancing existing ones. The course focuses on leadership engagement, team selection, funding strategies, training practices, and overall peer team wellness. Through interactive discussions and group exercises, participants will develop practical strategies to improve team performance, maintain confidentiality, increase resilience, and ensure long-term success of peer support initiatives.
The course begins with a 2-hour leadership module within the 16 hours, designated to command staff, supervisors, and administrators. This block focuses on understanding leadership’s role in peer support, fostering trust and confidentiality, allocating financial and organizational resources, and creating a culture that values mental wellness and team resilience.
Participants will learn to:
- Build and strengthen effective peer support teams.
- Create clear goals, policies, and confidentiality standards.
- Secure funding and resources for team success.
- Select and support qualified peers and clinicians.
- Promote wellness and prevent burnout.

- Understand leadership’s role in peer support.
- Support confidentiality and team trust.
- Provide organizational and financial backing for peer programs.
